Arsene making moves with 3 days to go

It’s the 28th of January and we haven’t signed anybody. Amongst the fans there is a certain panic that we haven’t done any business, but behind the scenes the panic is because we are doing business.

The David Villa rumours have started up again in the last few days with the news that Arsenal were in Barcelona last week to negotiate a deal for the Spanish striker. It’s clear he is unhappy at his lack of game time at Barcelona and a few words from Mr Cazorla and Mr Fabregas may have turned his head towards the prospect of joining Arsenal.

If you believe what you read Arsenal representatives have also been in Italy to discuss the signing of a player but have no interest in any German based players this window.

Throughout the month the boss has spoken of how hard they are working to improve the squad. From the outside it’s difficult to tell how ‘hard’ they were working but now it’s evident they are really trying to bring in a player as the window comes to a close in a typical Arsenal fashion.

I’m hoping we have our fingers in more than one pie in case that ‘one’ pie gets burnt in the oven (that was bad, I know!) It’s a dangerous tactic leaving any deals late because if they fall through you need a backup plan. If February first comes and we remain with the same squad of players, Arsene Wenger’s job will undoubtedly be questioned. He has allowed Chamakh to depart on loan in the anticipation of making a signing and to not replace would be criminal.

I wouldn’t be expecting any updates in the press conference tomorrow but I’m still hanging on to that slightly optimistic hope that come Friday morning we’ll have a new player to sing about.

  1. Arsenal never intended to sign anybody in this window. All the rumors in the media were just to keep critics distracted as long as possible. Wenger knows if Diaby/Rosesiky comes back & plays 5-6 games ,people will be happy & things can go on as is. This board is not revealing it but probably investing to get 04th spot may not be worth financially. You can just create stars, be mid table team & sell 1-2 every year & get 20M in bank.It is now obvious that they don’t want to try to win PL.The only puzzle in all this is why Wnger is staying back at the risk of losing his reputation of one of the best coach..Certainly he has earned enough now..Or he is not interested in sports any more & has become one of those CEOs of the world who please their board & pocket hefty bonus every year?
